images/news/amd.jpgPURPORTED BENCHMARKS for AMD's next generation Radeon HD6870 GPU have appeared on the Chinese website Pcinlife.

A 3DMark score for what was alleged to be a HD6870 graphics card was posted at the website by a forum user who apparently got his paws on one.

The screenshot shows a 3DMark GPU score of 11,634. While it is possible to fake this sort of thing the supplied GPU-Z screenshot does add credibly to the leak.

It also tallies with some internal data that erroneously made its way into ATI's latest driver release, Catalyst 10.8. If the score is real then AMD's next family of GPUs is really going to knock some sense into the competition.

If you get a score above 11,600 in 3DMark would you would be doing better than the current ATI high end HD5870 and HD5970 graphics cards in raw performance.

It would also handily compete with Nvidia's GTX480, which is the Green Goblin's flagship GPU.

The Pcinlife website said that additional benchmarks performed on the card showed an average of 43.55FPS in Crysis at 1920x1200 resolution with 4xAA anti-aliasing and preset very high enabled.

It also said that an average of 36.6FPS was observed in the DX11-heavy Unigine stress test, with tessellation set to extreme.

We will find out whether this performance is real a bit later this Autumn when AMD gets around to releasing its 'Southern Isles' line of GPU chips that are expected to tip up in the Radeon HD6000 series of graphics cards.
