I got an e-mail, which i kinda knew it contained a virus...



i forwarded it to my Yahoo and gmail account...



Yahoo caught it, and Gmail just rejected the e-mail sending it right back.



Im feeling a little testy tonight, so I download it from my e-mail to see what bells and whistles go off and this is what happens...



Microsoft Security Essentials went off immediately...



AVG said nothing...



So i figured I'd give AVG the benefit of the doubt and manually scan it



And the results....



I think this pretty much sums up AVG9 as a good antivirus scanner. AVG, if you get any better, please contact me, I'll be more than happy to retry. As of now, your UNINSTALLED!

hahaha. AVG was decent back in the day. Been using Avast for a while now and no problemos. NOD gets the nod too, from what I hear.

ugh. i just pulled it off at work. thanks for the heads up dave
it kept telling me adobe reader was a virus anyway, so i won't miss it. the ms app sounds way better

I've had AVG 8.5 behave like this last weekend. I was trying to find a no-cd crack for a game (sshhh!) and of course they all come in .rar or .zip. Scanning the compressed archive gave no result, but after extracting the file I scanned it again manually before accessing it, and it was indeed infected. Still, it should be able to detect it inside the compressed archive...

We're working on the next beta of MSE you all will probably see in Jan or Feb 210. Its really shaping up. Some modest changes for notifying the user but best of all, really good use of readyboost, without a hint of bogging down other applications running

Ops! I have AVG9 installed in 4 rigs at home and i used to trust it, but now I am scared.

I will move definitely to Avast!, I've seen many people saying that v4.8 is very good.

I've been using Kaspersky for ages. They might not be free, but they're the best. High service, strong detection. No, I'll take Kaspersky over any free AntiVirus anytime

...but is it worth it to move to MSE if you're using Avast?

I think moving to MSE is an improvement. But then again, I've never been a fan of Avast, imo it's ugly and unstable.

I'm a big Kaspersky fan - the detection rates are relatively good, the software itself is fairly light, and results are quite consistent.

Right now, I'm using AVG 9.0, and I'm happy with it - sure, internet security software should be accurate and have an effective real-time scanning capability, but once in a while things will be ignored, and in some cases false positives may be detected. Alas, it's a fact of the industry which is quite irritating.

Anyway, IMHO the best experience I've had (after trying out Trend Micro, F-Secure, NOD32, Symantec, McAfee, AVG, Avira, Panda and Microsoft products over the years) has to be with Kaspersky. Either way, I'm going to keep an eye on MSE as it seems to be a good candidate for future use
