If you're talking about the 8800GT, I don't think I've seen any reviews/benches where it "beat the pants" off the 3870. I know it's got slightly higher FPS on average but that it's more of a 150fps vs 170 fps issue from what I've seen.

I think 3870s are dx10.1 compatible while 8800gts aren't...and that the 3870s are more hdmi friendly...

As far as the price difference, lookin around on newegg tells me that they're almost identical except that the 3870s seem to be averaging 230 u.s. smackers and the 8800gts average about 250 u.s. smackers.

So, in my opinion, they're both great cards, offer awesome bang for the buck, are dx10 compatible, leave the upgrade path open with sli or crossfire, but in the end it's really just a question of personal taste.

Or are you talking about something completely different and I'm just on another planet at the moment? (can't say it doesn't happen often )

Well guys...

Things change. People change. Tastes change.

Due to an accounting error on my part, I had to cancel the 3870 the same night I ordered it. I'll be able to get a new GPU in the next week or two, but am now thinking of *gasp* this 8800GTS. I was reading reviews of the 3870 x2 and was noticing just how good the 8800GTS performs. Then, looking 'round da Egg I noticed that particular one for only 260 U.S. after all is done and said. Will still have the future upgrade path available via SLI...(heck I can SLI now!)

I'm also thinking about turning to the "other" dark side...Intel for my next build. Looking at those Wolfdales got me thinkin'.

So...if I was already on the dark side (hell I AM the dark side) before and am now going to the other side, does that mean I'm going to be a dork like Luke Skywalker? Will I have to start hanging out with Ewoks?
