Try this MO :g:

To repair and reset the Windows Vista TCP/IP stack:

1. Click on Start button.
2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
3. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request.
4. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
5. Reboot.

thanks i'll try, though right now i'm putting server 32bit on another partition, see if i can at least get a working system running, then tackle what looks to be a nasty virus. thing is, the apps just stop working, and in ff i don't even get the "this page cannot be displayed" message...weird.

:sphere:

though i'm still at a loss re the cause of it all. i wonder if it had something to do with the FF 3rc...i never surf "questionable" sites with an elevated privilege account, or use java/scripts. beats me...
