X64bit Newsletter
May 2006 Volume: 1 Issue: 8

Site Inprovments

The staff at x64bit.net are always seeking ways to improve the website and
help establish a better online community. One way we thought we'd improve
the site is to hire a few newsposters to help keep everyone up-to-speed with
whats happening in the Technology Arena.

To be a Newsposter you'd be asked to post news on a weekly basis on our
portal. Remember being a Staff member means you represent our site and that
you become an integral part of it.

If you don't think you could post three articles a day, sometimes two if you
can't find anything then this may not be the job for you.

How do you begin the process of applying as newsposter?

Firstly send a PM to the following account Site Admin detailing why you
think that you'd be suitable as a Newsposter and a bit about yourself.

Also post news in the Member Submitted News section so we can see how good
you are at the job! Make Sure you include your Source

Good luck.

From the x64bit.net Staff Team

Vista Build 5365
Review by Nvyseal

Attached File  WMP11.JPG   197.78K   83 downloads

Let’s take a quick tour of Vista 5365.8.060419-1800. Firstly this is "just a build" not a CTP. It
Is still considered as Beta 1. The Vista Team spent time on this build and made fixes to key
areas to show Beta Testers that they are committed to the quality that we can expect from
Redmond. Let’s see if they pass the x64bit.net challenge.

I started the install, which by the way has a completely new install interface, and one burger,
and a few fries later (approx. 30 minutes) I was booting for the first time into Vista 5365. The
only information I had to give the OS was its CD Key. Install was faster than the previous
build. I do need to tell you, on final install, you should see all the neat graphics Microsoft has
in store for you. Glass again was not a problem with my ATI AIW Pro 9700, using generic MS
drivers. I will install the ATI and Audigy drivers later.

I noticed a large performance increase which was expected. My performance rating stayed the
same. Boot time was faster

I activated the sidebar under accessories and took a look at the gadgets, but didn't see
anything new. Active Sync was not able to sync up to my PDA on the first boot.

Windows Media Player 11 took on the same personality as in the previous build with build
#11.05365.6161. Some picture files still are distorted or don't display right and Microsoft is
aware of this problem and will be fixed in a future build.

Internet Explorer 7 as build number 7.0.5365.8

Games are the same as 5342

Desktop backgrounds are looking good and quite a large collection. If you see something you
like, ask!

Services are going like crazy, over 40 processes. Ill have to look to one of Serb-mans guides
to get even more speed out of this build.

Networking has taken on a new look, and once again is quite easy to setup.

Well that’s it. I hope you all enjoy the screenshots. Bookmark us or become a member for

Windows Live Messegner Build 8.0.0683 (Leaked)
Review by: Neon

Attached File  buildnumber.PNG   994.18K   104 downloads

Windows Live Messenger is going to be the replacement for MSN Messenger. Currently MSN is
the most popular IM client according to a recent poll. So to maintain this lead Microsoft
needed to make some improvements.

Windows Live Messenger Build 8.0.0683 is certainly one-up from MSN and one of the best
Windows Live Messenger builds to date.

Lets have a look around!

Performance is good, it runs really nicely. The sound alerts are a bit like Windows Messenger
though, so they might get improved eventually.

Firstly the build number

Contact List - note new icons and a cool theme. You can still change the color scheme, i
usually choose grey or black. The little background effect looks a bit like Aurora only it doesn't
move

If you got some cash, you could make some calls off Windows Live Call which is integrated
with Windows Live Messenger. You can initiate this from the phone button at the top of the
contact list.

Windows Live Today should be replacing MSN Today. I am expected MS to add some different
things to this at some point, i'll keep an eye on it in new builds.

Chat Window is basically the same, but again some new icons at the top. They are in keeping
with some of the Vista icons. Looks cool eh?

With every new build so far, there have been some GUI changes. MS office currently looks like
Vista with some of its features, maybe Windows Live Messenger too will get these
improvements.
