anybody trying out the win 10 preview? i just got the iso and am tempted to do an in place install...

well heck, after creating another raw partition, win 10 installed on my existing win 8 partition anyway...still no regular start menu (have to make shortcuts for everything manually to get anything done). so more of the same win 8-sad os-no 'ease of access'-use tiles- awfulness . all my apps seem to work except the convert win8 to win7 start menu one. time to fresh install win 8 with win 7 explorer...

um..duh lol! played around with start menu settings and got a simple style start menu without the awful tiles and 'apps' clutter! yay!!!

win 10 preview appears to be pretty fast too...i hope they keep the 'regular' start menu option alive in the rtm

im still on 8.1 dual booting 7.

are you using a touch screen?

no t screen. it is just faster even without any page file. i'm going to go single ssd/non raid pretty soon to check out page-less performance/fast boot, but right now it is way faster in a user capacity all way 'round than win7 or win8/8.1, and this with a start menu similar to our beloved 'old' style menu.oh, and it had all drivers (gpt volume raid) out of box...pretty slick

aw heck, i have to try again (lost my install days after posting that last shot). winders 10 is pretty neat, so this time no raid/gpt partitions to muck up a boot sector repair...

Microsoft's Windows 10 event is just getting started, and it sounds like the company is eager to make it as easy and cheap as possible for those running older versions of Windows to upgrade. Terry Myerson just announced on stage that, for the first year after Windows 10 launches, any device running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the latest version of MIcrosoft's OS — for free. How exactly this program will work isn't clear just yet — it'll certainly be subject to some hardware requirements, particularly for older machines running Windows 7. But a simplified upgrade path will likely do a lot to help Windows 10 adoption — rather than dealing with a number of different versions of Windows and different upgrade costs, most consumers will simply take this free update and enjoy running Microsoft's latest.

saw that. looks like they did good, but i don't want to go down the path leading to a subscription based os. i've gotten so lazy. i need to firer up a good distro soon...

I was running it on a dual boot but like Mo after a few days my boot partition went in the crapper I suspect it was the raid that did it. I thought it was pretty good too, I found the way to change the boot page to the desktop fairly quickly duh! I saw a new build out yesterday so I'll prolly d/l it and check it out btw how's u guys doin ?
