Neowin created a theme patcher that enables the use of 3rd party themes without extra software.

BTW just saying that i am not the best at this, Serb-Man is...anyone that knows this game best is him...i am more of a performance Enhancement man myself though i am sure we've all stuck our oar in somewhere

You know, the funiest part about that UX theme dll patcher is that it consumes no memory in the background. Before, I used style XP which was always a memory killer program for me. Anyone use it, still?

Nope, Thanks to this little update, there's no need for Style XP or it's needing to be registered :getlost: which is GREAT.. the only thing I use it for now is loading my bootscreens, unless someone knows of a way to do it manually... I tried editing my boot.ini but it always gives me and error :getlost: and I end up changing it back to normal... btw if you decide to edit your boot.ini, ALWAYS make a second STOCK boot entry so you can still log onto Windows... it simply uses the original bootscreen

I remember these old days when I wrote a tutorial on how to change the boot screen manually in Windows XP. The only problem in your case is that the guide was written for XP SP1. I don't think they have changed anything so it should work, the same (I did not test it!!) as long as your bootscreen is SP2 compatible. But, don't mess too much with that if you're not sure of how it works. Here is the link to my old tutorial:

Just ignore the few first instructions, since you don't want a longhorn boot screen. Start reading when it says something about windows file protection. Good luck!

Alright, thanks, I was hoping there was a way to just edit your boot.ini and direct it to the other file without having to safe mode the computer to do it, but thanks for the info!

I know of a nice way to replace your UXtheme without rebooting into safe mode... without even killing Explorer Process !

1. Eliminate the UXtheme in the dllcache
2. rename the uxtheme.dll in system
3. place the patched uxtheme.dll in system
4. simply reboot as usual
5. Done

Explorer locks the file from move or delete but not rename, after you rename the file it is still locked so u haveto delete it after you reboot if u want, i just renamed it to uxtheme.bak and left it there.
