Vista and Windows7, do not allow the normal user to read the SMART data from harddisks.

This... is very annoying, does anyone know a solution so that the normal user can make a readout too?

No, not exactly. My problem was that reading the SMART data, requires elevated rights. which is annoying.
I now disabled UAC, but it's not exactly a 'solution', I'd rather call it a hack

I'm pretty sure that it is enabled in the bios, since I can read the data now, with UAC disabled :roadrunner:
