well, it's time to 'gunn' the magnepans...new hardwood frames around the panels, and new crossovers...and some way to get them off the floor gracefully...

bought a hitachi compound miter saw today, for tight frame cuts, crossover parts are coming in. the coil inductors alone weigh a ton each...this will be interesting...

i'll get more pics up soon (the mahogany frames do wonders for the planars. i tried oak plank bases with mahogany skirting and spikes, along with mid panel struts. i settled on spikes mounted to the original planar metal 'feet': the panels seem to perform better all way round if allowed to pass vibration to the wood frames. bolting them to the oak plank bases/installing struts robbed them of their sweet rich bass, and caused 'beaming' of mids and highs, at least with my system). after a search for a matching pre to go with my A3cr power amp, i found an A3cr pre here in the states! it's on it's way! next friday will be a baseline test day: ss pre or tube pre...?

going dsd soon. after a bit of net poking found a suitable entry into hi-rez...the saber/xmos based 'gustard x12' dac (w/the addition of the usb interface u12 via its Is2 digital hdmi interconnect).

if you decide you can forgo balanced, i have an arcam irdac, and it's predecessor the rdac, both capable of being ran off battery power (superb audio this way, jet black background), available for sale ;)

Sorry it took so long to answer Mo. I finally got a Schitt Bitfrost 2 Uber. I now understand why u need a GOOD dac for digi, man everything sounds different but all good ( I tried an Arcam and a couple other 300-500$ range and IMHO the Schitt was/is awesome and since it is upgradeable I think it's my endgame)except now that I've heard how lo res mp3 /wma/ etc sounds I gotta re-acquire most of my music in flac or some lossless format doh!! ....Stormy

i was looking at the uber, but got hot for dsd, so the gustard won out. i'm liking the saber chip in how it's implemented, so i'll hang with it for a bit. yeah, wav and flac, but there are online companies that release tunes in at least redbook to hi res files, along with mp3
