"The idea is that the ISP can remotely fix a problem PC – even if it has experienced the infamous Blue screen of Death. In the IDF demo, Starsoftcomm's software opened up secure connexion. The remote console then ran diagnostic software and was able to fix the problem, then reboot the PC.

Obviously, such a facility will be a great boon to any supplier having to deal with the general public. However, despite the assurances that the system is totally, it is a very worrying capability..."

the "approval" could be something in the contract signed with the isp. reasoning would be at their discretion.
just the idea that it can happen... :storm:

My DSL line is from BellSouth (soon to be AT&T...again) and they have the remote software that is used for online Tech Chat. The assumption is that it is for chatting only but if you read it close, it is much more. The few times I have done the online Tech Chat, as soons as it was over, I unistalled the software. Call me paranoid but I don't like the idea of someone having a way into the system...talker. :cool2:

I understand Sphere, I have router, firewall, and more but you have to remember, with the software that I was talking about from BellSouth, you voluntarily install it and whether you know it or not, you give them permission...talker. :D

I'm with ya Sphere. I use Secure Tunnel Proxy Servers, a firewall router, Gentoo on my Sempron box, another router, and then I route all packets to MO and back.

It's surprising how much MO filters out of my net traffic. :) :D :storm: :cool2:
