the new adaware...and spybot s&d: wtf? my favorite freeware (adaware udated to pro) now are almost usless imho re: the "newest" versions. i guess the spam/spyware/crap injecting sofakings got to them ie: law suits. theses once mighty always dependable "we'll save you" programs have become unrecognizable. i hate to say it (but must): they are now "bloatware-like". it used to be, you could just start the things up, and check the "get rid of it" box to rid your system of foul play. now, you have to comb through and decide which "might be bad crap" cookie/cache/mru items that could pose a breach of security. sad day for me, as big spam (and their "legal" advisers) have sunk some fine (used to be) freeware for us windows users. as luck would have it, i still have the older versions. but how long will updates be available for these? i am now reminded of scara's reaction to vista: wtf?

I have always used version 6 of Ad-aware MO - Ad-aware SE Pro. I shove it on all systems when I'm building and it works the best with all updates and no bloat either LMK should you require
The above, along with Spywareblaster (which is free) and protects the system with no resources being used whatsoever, run, update and protect. It's completely invisible and does a darn good job.
When you perform an examination with Ad-aware every month, with Spywareblaster alongside, you will be lucky to find any infection at all
The new Ad-aware is junk and become Vista like - Bloated!

I usually use a combination of Spyware Blaster and Spybot. I don't really see the problem with the new Spybot...how has it changed???

it takes forever to start, and doesn't list the names of the bugs: it just says "cache", "cookie" and "mru"...or, is it not finding any junk, and is just giving you the option to remove all your stuff? either way, it is very confusing. i find it a backward way to set up a gui...

Seriously...have I been hittin the fruit loops too much lately or doesn't it look/act about the exact same as v1.4?
On edit, maybe I just haven't had much spyware so I haven't had a chance to see how it has changed? (stay away from the midget pr0n sites, MO, dang)

Spybot S&D has changed and I don't really much care for the intial startup, but it works like it did, if you only have that then you just aren't finding anything to remove, but the really nice thing is it is now able to remove things that once required a seperate specialized removal tool, immunizations obviously have been updated to include more somewhat like SpywareBlaster which I also use. The new AdAware is crap and doesn't seem to find items as well as good ole 6 SE Pro, CWShredder and HiJack This still good for what they are used for with newer versions being now handled by Trend Micro, and a thing I just recalled, the hosts file protection by Spybot has improved as well and so long as you do not load the TeaTimer there are no system resources to worry over.
