The old set up.

I ended up spending more time cleaning the case out than anything else.

For the most part this was one of the easiest builds I've ever done. One issue was the Scythe was a PITA to install for the 1156 socket. I think it was added onto its compatibility list after it came out and it shows.

Other than that it was pretty easy.

2 problems I'm still working with are that I cannot for the life of me get my Silicon 3114 SATA card to work, so I'm missing 3 of my drives at the moment. The Device Manager sees a RAID card but none of the drivers I've found for it work. From what I remember Windows Update typically finds the driver for me but it's not picking it up this time for some reason.

Also, I'm still figuring out the Symbolic Links thing. I'd like to use them but am having trouble learning how to do them. Using Link Ext do you select the folder you want to be moved first or the destination folder? Bah, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I'm purty happy though. Thanks for the help peoples. :sphere2:

Update: Fixed the Sil3114 problem for the most part. Resat it in its slot and now it reads...2 of the 3 drives. Not sure why it's not reading the third though...

Another update: I think I might have the Symbolic Link/Junction fixed. We'll see.

Something even more exciting is that I'm apparently an idiot. I let the BIOS pick the RAM timings/speed/voltage and didn't notice for awhile that it was at 533Mhz (ddr1066). My RAM is friggin DDR2000. So...(derp)...I went into the BIOS and manually set everything up. I am currently running this Xeon at a 42 percent OC (up to 3.6 from 2.55ghz) and the RAM at its rated spec of 1000mhz. There's a bit of a difference right there. :sphere2:

I'll take some time to stress test it soon but for now I'm just going to enjoy the (very very very very very fast) ride. :)

And I've been fiddling around with it too much. Time to hit the hay.

Happy Thanksgiving guys! :sphere2:

I agree. I haven't done any stress testing yet but with a 42% OC on my CPU all 4 cores are staying around 30C - 35C.

Here's the latest Windows Experience blah blah blah since my OC:

Really considering Crossfiring with another 4870...that way I can not worrying about upgrading anything for a couple of years (hopefully lol).

Nice buddy, well done :)

Might get a little bit better airflow when all that cabling is tidied up :roadrunner:, notice the dust gathering on HD's? Sure sign of blockage area :(

Yeah, I think I blew enough dust out the case to build another computer with. :sphere2:

Well, I have a 2TB internal drive on the way (80 bucks I think) and already had a 2TB WD Elements external drive delivered. Just ordered a XFX ATI 6870 Black Edition which will be here in a couple of days. I realize I paid an extra 20 bucks or so for them to OC the card basically, but I've had my fill of overclocking GPUs so I wasn't going to do it anyway.

So, I will be selling my old rig to my friend and getting his old rig (one of my old ones lol) and making my daughter her first computer out of it for her birthday in February. All I will need is a pink case, pink keyboard, pink mouse, and monitor. :)

I'm debating getting her a hedgehog for Xmas.

The 2TB external was only about 80 bucks or so as well. Crazy how HDD prices have came down. I saw a 160gb internal I paid something like 100 for a couple of years ago in my Newegg order history. :sphere2:
