I'll wait until my lease with Satan  is up on my soul.

By then the Phenom 3ghz quad cores will be out and I'm sure I wll be able to convince Satan :lust: to sign a new lease so I can procure the funds to build my next system...

Bwaaahahahahahahahahahahaha

There was an article where AMD confirmed that the tri-cores are just quad cores with one core not working, so basically a way to make something off a semi-faulty product by technicality.

I think it's not..

there is only a few apps/games that can use its full Potential.. so buying it now would be just money wasting.

Still, if you Assembling new PC is Suggest you to go for it.. there is no sense to buy Old Cr@p if new Poo is available

I've been waiting for the phenoms to mature but it just seems that AMD dropped the ball on this one. And as much as I'd like to see them rebound with a strong chip to up the competition level (after which we all win), I just can't see running an ATI chipset. When my tax return comes through it'll be all about the Core 2 Quad, the Asus P5K3 Black Pearl, and an OCZ ProXstream kilowatt PSU. <---the last comes with 4.9gigs of PSU drivers on a disc. SaWeet!!!

I'll be a bit worried about going into water-cooling but c'est la vie. That rig will be smoking. Can't wait.

yeah but 2g worth of ddr3 comes soldered right onto the board. I've been on 2g of memory for a while now and other than a few exceptions, I've never felt pressed to up it to 4g. Hopefully when 4g becomes almost mandatory, the price of ddr3 will have come down.

edit---as long as the price of this thing isn't too crazy, of course. :)

Yeah. Looks like I won't have any money for the computer (maybe a new case...Antec 182...) this time around anyway. However, I've decided to wait on Phenoms until they're up to 3ghz or so and somewhat affordable. If I upgrade before that time I'll probably just get a cheap dual-core until some better quads come out.

The second downer may well be the price point on the P5K3. Looking online for pricing has several high dollar figures pointed in the close to a thousand dollar range.

:dribble:

And, let me know when you up those PSU drivers. I think mine are a bit outdated.

Well it's that time again, folks!

I'm thinking of spending money I don't have to upgrade my computer again!

I'm giving up on Phenom/quad core until some decent AMD offerings come out.

However, I'm thinking (again) of either:

-Going ahead and getting an am2+ motherboard, 4 gigs ram, and cheap dual core

or

-just getting a 3870

So I had a couple questions:

-You guys think am2+ will still be the socket'o'choice by the time some decently priced 3ghz AMD quads are out?

-You think a 3870 would be bottlenecked by my 2.8 single core cpu?

My thoughts: Going to the am2+ would be a good thing IF in the future there are good quads available for the socket
Going to a 3870 would be a good thing because in the future I could just get another and crossfire it to upgrade

Dang it, I'm conflusterized again. Any thoughts?

For the record, my current rig is

amd opteron 148 @ 2.8
2 x 1gb ram @ ddr512
asus a8n sli premium
ati all in wonder x1900

On edit: I had another quick question. My google-fu appears to be impaired because of being sick for the last 5 days (puking violently ftwz0rz!1), but what's the deal with PCI express socket speeds or whatever? Does it matter if you have 2 that are 16x or 2 that are 8x? I (think I) know that atm it doesn't make much of a difference? Just wondrin as I'm lookin at am2+ mobos.

the ati sounds good. that would be the item you save when going to a mobo w/ pci-e 2.0, etc.
