New technologies showcase the not-too-distant future

Quote

You schlep a PDA, cell phone or other handheld gizmo but aren't particularly fond of its cramped keyboard (assuming it even has one). You are loath to carry an accessory keyboard. Entering text is painful. Canesta, whose new chips will turn up in a variety of portable devices during the first half of next year, lets people type on an imaginary standard-size Qwerty keyboard.

Yes, imaginary. You place the Canestasized (my word) device on a table or desk and it projects a laser image of a keyboard onto the flat service. As you peck away on the projected image, Canesta's "electronic perception technology" turns the movement of your fingers into keystrokes. The faux keyboard can even function like a mouse.

I think it will be something like this. I find it cool, but not sure that everyone will get used to it. Personally, I would :talker:

I just happen to be on the site earlier in the day and saw it, not sure I'd enjoy it myself though.

I don't find it comfortable :chriso: , i do like to feel the keys from my keyboard under my fingers. And how the hell to feel which letter to press if you don't feel the keys, I don't like to look at the keyboard.

You don't have to look at the keyboard. All you have to do is find home row and then you shouldn't need to look at it anymore.

So ... that's for HopScotch Typing???
Would it still be called a Typo? or a Stumble?

I've tried a lot of things for my Axim, but none really have excited me. I saw the laser board a while back ... and just don't have a flat surface when I wanna type on the train.
So, I still use either the block rec. or the tinny screen keyboard
