Well, today was the big day!! The new firmware from Sony was released this morning which among many fixes brought out the much anticipated folding@home client!! I got right down to business after the long download. After the firmware update you have an additonal download for the client. From there you just have to start it up, accept a few agreement thingys, then put in your team info and your off!! The client itself is really pretty and fun to watch and play around with. I am blown away of how fast it is, I started out with a 500000 WU and it said it would only take 8 hours to eat through!!!!!!!! My Core 2 Duo would take at least a day or two to eat through that!!! Pretty impressive peice of work. Also, I was surprised to see that after running for an hour my machine wasn't even that hot. Yeah, it was putting out some warm air but nothing like I thought it would!! Makes me wonder if Sony programmed it so it doesn't even use 100 percent of the processing power inorder to keep the temps down and expand the life of the system.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! In the first day of folding by the ps3 they have already almost equaled the amount of processing power all the CPU's in the world do in a day!!!!!!!!
Check out all the stats here!!!
As you can see 33 PS3s = 1 Teraflop, and 1051 PCs = 1 Teraflop!!!!!!!
Take that PS3 haters!! Look who's laughing now!!!

I downloaded it at about 2:40AM last night just a few minutes after it was released.
By my latest calculations, my average points per day will go from around 200 to 1000.
7000+ points per week. Not bad...

Recently, the Folding@Home team released a version of their software that runs on Sony's Playstation 3. Today I glanced at the leader board, which breaks out the calculations by platform, updated hourly, and realized that the PS3 has taken the program to a completely new level, now accounting for 666 of the total 920 TeraFlops (72%!) of total distributed computing power. And it's probably increased since I checked. How crazy.

Eh, he's just jelous he doesn't have one. Stanford has a half a dozen ps3's running 24/7 for several weeks now monitoring them to see how the do with temps and stuff. So, I would think they would see problems before we do. And I'm sure Sony is doing the same. Afterall, Sony is the one that will have to warrant these suckers if they start frying since they made and released the client.

Im sorry but if you buy a PS3 for simply folding...your stupid. You buy a gaming machine for folding.
