Hi all - rig in not sig rig but has the following;

MSI K9N Neo (Nvidia 550 MCP)
AM2 X2 4600+
2x1Gb OCZ Platinum PC2 DDR2 6400 (part no OCZ2P8002GK)
BFG 7950GT

So according to the manual & support forums, you install DIMMS in Sockets 1&2 (even though 1&3 / 2&4 are the same colour). When installed, everything looks OK but system is giving BSOD from time to time. The rig's owner is on holiday for 2 weeks so I get a chance to play - I've tested several combinations as outlined below (D=Dimm, S=Slot) with ISO built MemTest86 V3.3.

D1S1 D2S2 - fails after 1 hr @ 400Mb marker
D2S1 D1S2 - fails after 1 hr @ 1118Mb marker

D1S1 - no fail after 8 hr
D2S1 - no fail after 8 hr

So, it is normal that a 'suspect' DIMM can pass Memtest when tested on it's own but fails when done as a matched pair ?

I'm going to RMA the RAM but just want to be 100% that (a) I've tried everything and (b) haven't done something silly.

Well after reading your post I think its your ram, My little brother has a GA-965P-DS3 intel board with E6400 an that same ram an it has been doing something similer.

well since 2 people are having issue with that ram Id look a voltages. Alot of the new DDRII stuff is reqiring more than the original 1.8 we were told it was gonna use.Alot of boards still auto set 1.8 Id check OCZ's forum for that exact ram. 2 stick need more power

OCZ's says 2.0v or 2.1V I set this to 2.4 which is the limit this board would go an still couldn't stabilize it.

Well, SPD says at 533mhz 3-4-4-10 and at 667mhz 4-4-4-12 and at 800mhz 5-5-5-15 I have successfully run them at lower timings an lower speed, however at 667 an faster there is no timings that works. just get memory errors in test 6 of memtest86+ every pass. one pass was only 2 errors but another was 6.

Hi Guys

Thanks for replies - memory was running at stock speed, stock voltage & stock CPU i.e. not a hint of overclocking !

As I was getting strange errors in tests & BSOD, I've RMA'd the RAM as I shouldn't have to start increasing voltage or relaxing timings to get it to work. Weird thing in my tests was that the RAM only failed Memtest when run as dual channel - worked OK single channel, but still failed Prime & SuperPI.
