in all honesty Camaro, i wish MS would not have to add all the safety features in Vista that they did. Problem is, with NT4, Windows98, Windows 2000 the envronment was not secure. Microsoft made a commitment to its users that it would lock down its future OS's and make a more secure OS. In doing that, it has to go both ways.

As for "However to penalize everyone regardless of guilt is wrong too" its just a way of life. I wish i didnt have to go through security checkpoints in the airport, or DUI checkpoints on the roads or have to lock my doors at night, but i have to, and our country has no EULA on this, but i still have to pay my taxes.

As for XP being a good OS, it is. Keep it, use it until its not supported anymore. Thats what i did with Windows 2000 and Windows 98. I was so scared to death of "Whistler" and it phoning home and activation. it took me 2 years before even installing it on one of my systems. Now that i have installed it, i see i really have nothing to worry about, and what a fool i was for waiting so long. It really is a better OS, and a much safer OS than what i was using.

Just because we have lots of computing power at our hands.......does that give Microcrap the excuse to abuse it?

Vista is bloated......simple!.......and MS have had years to get it right!

It's close to release now and it still ain't right. Yes I may have the hardware to run Vista.....but do I want such a 'demanding' OS regardless?........that is the question?.

I want my hardware to dictate what OS will run on it........not the other way about I'm afraid!

I have used Vista (most builds).......and it makes me see every time how good an OS XP really is.........

I will agree that XP is the best OS as of yet, but i still see a lot of potential in Vista. I LOVE the intergrated Media System that it has, even with all the bugs in it. 'Bout damn time if you ask me.

Yes I can choose not to use Vista........but for how long?........support will dwindle for XP eventually.....making the upgrade inevitable eventually?.....

You don't see bloat because you are blinded by the new features (most of which can be added into XP anyway) and fancy GUI (which can also be added into XP)........

I see nothing in Vista whatsoever to warrant an upgrade (or downgrade really LOL)

Had MS not put all their time into Vista.......then XP 64 could have been a much better OS than all the rest put together!

I feel that it was abandoned for this purpose and thus a good opportunity missed.

I have to point out that the advanced users will find a way to tweak the OS to do what they want, if not have the option available thought more advanced channels in the OS itself. I don't feel that it is too bloated IMHO but i haven't really nosed around too much. Just runnin' it and keeping it basic for now. LOL :smoke:

If i knew more about Linux i would probably be running it. I was running SuSE 10.1 x64 and Kubuntu along with XPx64 & XPx86 (yeah, quad boot baby) at one point. My only problem is i am so Windows dependent that i have huge problems making my hardware work with it (have to have dual head) along with everyother piece of equipment i have LOL. I did take a Unix course back at Weber State University, but if you don't use it, you lose it. Sigh, commercialism LOL.

You know before I got my new PC, I used linux more than windows. I have the utmost respect for BOTH linux and windows users. In the end I believe it comes down to what do you want from your system?

At the moment, I want an OS that works with out slowing down my machine (although I must admit one needs a decent machine for a MS OS to run properly though) I am happy running Windows XP for now.

But if there is a huge breakthrough in linux (possibley the release of KDE 4) then I might consider switching again

I think MS needs to take some lessons from OS2, now that was a great OS!! If they made a new version of that for PC's that would be awesome!!! I never ever say our old IBM OS2 Warp machine crash, not once ever!! And I used it a lot when I was little playing: Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, Where in the US is Carmon Sandiago, etc.
