Ok guys, now I have an intersting problem. When I play certian games my PC lags.

Half Life 2 (I have to run it on low detail and at a resolution of 800X640) for it not to lag.
Doom 3, I have to run it on low detail and at a resolution of 640X320 (I think)
Need For Speed Most Wanted (Medium detail but at 640X320)

I am not being funny but shouldn't my PC be able to run this games on at least medium quality for it not to lag? I even increased memory to my onboard gfx card (Geforce 6100, to 512MB)

Before I play the games the system usually shows I have 500mb of RAM on hand, so I doubt its any backround tasks giving me my problems. Have all the latest drivers installed, even AMD's duo core optermisation software installed.

Anyone have ideas whats causing this?

Not so simple Scara, must be something esle...

I play Need For Speed Most Wanted (mid detail) @ 800x600 with my crap FX 5500 (OC 8%) 256 MB and no lag. Note that Lino's rig is much better than mine, should play this game very smoothly.

Anyideas? I checked again and its not any backround tasks causing problems. Could it be a driver?

when you increase an on-board videocards ram it uses your system ram so 512mb of on-board ram it should be using up all 512mbs of system ram, unless the card has built-in ram say 256, then it would consume 256mbs of system ram

The onboard gfx card, has about 256mb of its own memory and then it uses another 256 of system RAM

try running eq2 lino

and in my experiences you need a dedicated video card... no sharing or on board crap, it really eats away at stuff and yes it'll be very laggy, however if it's dedicated it'll run flawlessly.. don't ask why I just know from experience <.< stupid dell

I have found in my exper. that on board are not always what they are cracked up to be.

A dedicated Vid card is the way to go, but...

you may want to enter your bios and see if you can set up the system into more of a gaming mode, or also check in your video properties on what its set up like as far as hardware performance goes

Back when I had a Athlon 64 2800+ I had a 9800Pro (Flashed up) and could keep up with the best of em with there expensive 3500+ and FX53's.

Of course I was not close in benching...but for games I was close to the rest.

Well after hours and hours of crying. 'Oops this is not why didn't I get a Geforce 7250 when I could'

Ok but seriously, I discovered that by changing certian profiles in Nvdia control panel that it made a difference. Games run much smoother now,,, I can now at least run NFSU MW on median graphics without it lagging.

Quake 4 runs well, and so does HL 2.. But only game that gives me probs is Doom 3. I'll have to wait until I can get a dedicated gfx card
