I would recommend using the SMP client on any multi-core system, unless it's absolutely not possible for whatever reason. Kelpfries, if you ran the SMP client on all those servers, you'd probably be pulling in about 30,000 points per week. Maybe 20,000 if you run them at 60%. The work units for the SMP client are worth a lot more than the single-core client.

But I haven't used the Windows SMP client, so maybe it sucks so bad that it's not worth it. Hopefully they'll improve it if that's the case.

The SMP client will give more points, but it should not be used on a 2 core machine, it is recommended that you run it on a machine that has at least 4 cores because there have been problems and issues on 2 core machines.

All my machines are dual core and it runs the SMP client fine

I know it uses 4 MPI nodes, so it works better on four cores. But it works fine on two. Unless there's a specific problem with the Windows client that I'm not aware of?

i was checking that out this morning. looks like there is no offical v6 smp client yet, but you can run smp work units with it? i'll have to have another cup of coffee before i can make heads or tails of what they mean...

v6 of Windows SMP client hasn't been released yet. But when it is, the install procedure will be the same as the last version. That's all they mean really.

No, the SMP and single-core console client are combined. I don't know exactly how it will work with Windows. In Linux, I just passed it "-smp" and it continued the WU I'd been working on with v5.

Did you run install.bat as admin? And is .NET 2.0 installed?

It could also be a firewall problem.
