I see him on, so I know he's alive, but I also hope he is safe.

I'm fine. My electricity just came back on a few minutes ago. None of my immediate family were hurt. One extended family member and several people I know were killed. The tornado passed about a quarter of a mile south of me. I was driving through town when I saw a wall of darkness coming at me and heard what sounded like a hundred freight trains crashing into each other. I raced to my grandma's house nearby and huddled with her in the hallway as the tornado passed by. If I had decided to keep driving south, I might not have survived.

I just drove through town today and I'm still in shock. All the places that were so familiar to me are gone. Neighborhoods are just piles of debris. I don't even recognize the town anymore. It's hard to put it into words. I'm just glad my family is safe.

They're saying it's one of the worst tornadoes in history. I can't imagine anything worse. Here's a video of it, but you can't really get the scale of it unless you're in it.

(My dad manages the apartment complex mentioned in the video. He was there all day today searching through the rubble. Miraculously, as far as we know, everyone survived.)

And here's one from the air...

The minute 'Joplin' and 'tornado' were said on the news I freaked out. So glad you and your family are ok. So not glad and so, so, so sorry about your friends and city. Don't know what to say. Probably nothing could be after such a tragedy. Brewin, you and your family have friends around the globe. Anything we can do, please say.

Thanks for the support, guys. I've been out all day walking through town trying to help anyone who needs it. I felt pretty useless though as most of the houses were completely destroyed and there was nothing I could do. I just saw that they upgraded it to an EF5 with winds well over 200mph. That's not surprising from what I saw today. And now we're getting ready for the next round of severe storms in a couple hours...

Please donate if you can.
