Me and Patrick got our heads together and spent sometime on a really cool tweak.
Server is a really sound platform, so why not use it for a Workstation?
First we converted it to XP Pro and then using some Reg edits we had it complete with Welcome Screen.
The plan of course is to create a guide with it so you can turn off all the Server fluff, add some of the XP fluff but not have all the useless junk you never use.
My Server is now XP and has a Welcome Screen but we need to refine the whole process, possibly Automate some of it with an installer.

I used some kind of a tweaker (can't remember the name, but it was made by SaLa or someone) and it lets you enable the welcome screen, the fast user switching ability and lots of other stuff. I just don't see the actual point of converting it to a Workstation. I just like Server platforms because of their stability and performance.

I have the app but it lacks the ability to make it a Workstation and its not recommended with XP.
Therefore after conversion to the 'more secure workstation' thats it lol...not gonna help.

I have the app karls talking about however I never did the Welcome Screen, and for those of you wanting to make your server look like vista, DO NOT, I MEAN DO NOT use ANY kind of patcher to setup the themes instead, pull the files out of the patcher ( do it in XP or something and save the files that were added) and after you patch your uxtheme.dll you can use thrid party themes, problem solved

Shadowfox is right, Patches for uxtheme.dll or others that aren't manual CAN go wrong.

thanks for that insight Shadowfox, is it because they don't work or you don't allow them?

no, they don't work because of certain logon files are changed and you can't reverse it after you log out LOL. I tried joejoe's XP to vista patcher and part of the problem was log on files, the other part was the fact that his patcher is for XP SP2
