I have heard many people speak of virtual pc, virtual machine etc but what exactly are they, what do they do and when and what would you use them for?

Virtual PC is from Microsoft. It allows you to be running XP and within a window also running XP, Windows ME, Vista or other things like Redhat Linux.
It uses memory of course.
Other alternatives are available that do the same job. Go look for Virtual PC 2004

and it doesn't work on server 2003 you have to run it in XP and run 2003 in it that way.

well put it this way, yes you can but if you got 512mb ram and you wanna allocate some for vista your gonna use some ram. I'd recommend XP, Server, Linux and things like that.

lots of space and ram it's a hog but it's really cool to test out I just wouldn't use it as a permanant

well maybe ill try vista next that way, 2gb ram should be enough

if not let us know keep us posted though on performance and such and leave a list of your specs so we know what all is going on
