Hey guys,

Here is another Vista tweak guide for the newly released build, 5365. The build is very fast and efficient, compared to the previous ones, so it should run smoothly on your machines. However, as you already know, Vista is a monster, so it needs to be tweaked for slower PCs.

This guide is very similar to the one that we had for 5342, since MS did not add many features to the OS, but rather focused on correcting reported bugs. So, basically, I will rewrite services, start-up items and folder options that need to be disabled and add a few things to it.

Services (set to disabled):
- Human interface device access
- Internet connection sharing
- IP Helper
- Media center extender service
- Media center receiver service
- Media center scheduler service
- Media center service launcher
- Net.TCP Port sharing service
- Offline files
- Print spooler (if not using printer)
- Routing and remote access
- Secondary logon
- Security center
- Tablet PC Input service
- Windows defender (if you don’t use it…)
- Windows error reporting service
- Windows Firewall
- Windows search (up to you…[memory consumer])
- Windows Time

These are used to control and maintain sharing of resources on LAN. You can disable them if network sharing is not enabled:
- Computer browser
- Network list service
- Network location awareness
- Server
- TCP/IP NetBIOS helper

Some other services are set to ‘manual’. You do not have to modify them; they will start only if Windows needs them.

Disable system restore on all drives:
1. Control panel- System and maintenance- System
2. Advanced system settings
3. System protection tab
4. Uncheck all the drives.
5. Apply changes.

You’ll like the next one…

Disable UAP (User account protection)

1. Control panel- User accounts
2. Change security settings
3. Uncheck ‘Use user account control (UAC) to help protect your computer.’
4. Click OK and restart.

Disable folder option settings

1. Control panel- System and maintenance- System
2. Advanced system settings
3. Advanced tab
4. Uncheck the following boxes:
- Fade or slide menus into view
- Fade or slide tooltips into view
- show shadows under menus
- Show translucent selection rectangle
- Slide open combo boxes
- Use a background image for each folder type
- Automatically search for network printers (if not sharing printer on LAN)
- Remember each folder’s view settings
- Show preview handlers in reading pane
5. Apply changes.

As you see, it’s very similar to the tweak that was designed for 5342. Feel free to add other stuff if you find something useful that I did not mention :P

Enjoy.

It is, at least better than all the previous. However, far from being perfect and adapted to all recent machines.

Edit: No probs, :P

OK got it installed and have the same problems installing Nero Premium7 as in Vista 5342............It´s really frustrating me to see Microsoft just doing a little bit on the speed and nothing on the compability.........
Better they stop givin testversions and bring a real good testversion when it´s ready...........I´m really frustrated :P :P :P
