I still say we shouldn't have a political forum/thread MO. Just mho*. As it is, we've all talked a bit about certain political things but we're all still amiable here. I think that's cuz it's been in passing, not a full-blown dealio.

*all posts made by myself after 12:00am EST on Thursday and Friday nights don't count and I reserve the right to delete/edit them when I stumble back to the puter the next morning/afternoon.

That's my biggest fear for this forum. If I've ever added to that tension or mud stirring, I offer my most humble apology as it was never intentional. I'm sure there have been a few late-night posts here where I've forgotten and almost willfully-ignored the "no-politics" rule, as have a few others. But I truly believe that our tech forum is not the place for that stuff.

I'm a person that can best be described as "hyper-partisan." For the last couple months I've neglected a lot of online forums and sites, including my own, because I'm one of those political wonks that has spent the last few months knocking on doors, making phone calls, doing data entry, and, generally, disappearing into the real-world political landscape. All my time away from work since the middle of summer has been spent volunteering for my candidate, from 8am to 1am, every day.

At the same time, on this forum, I've been lucky enough to make friends that probably did the same thing for their party, their candidate(s), their issues, etc, all of which might be directly opposed to my choice. But, you know what? We're still friends and we still share OC tips, game reviews, Skype chats and Desky threads. Along with a lot of other good stuff.

We shouldn't risk losing our community every 4 years.

I agree completely, I also have avoided alot of forums though not for the same reason my reason is because I am too opinionated and I dont want that spilling over where it does not belong.
Lets just say I did not vote for either idiot. though I did vote.

Well, while this is still open I'll toss this in. I voted for neither Obama or McCain. In my voting history (that goes back to Nixon), I have always voted for one of the mainline candidates. Some of those votes were, at times, not as much for the person that I voted for as much as a vote against the one that I didn't vote for. This time I broke the pattern and voted for an Independent. I got so tired of all the rhetoric, stories, misleadings (lies?), finger pointings, etc from both sides of the equation that I had pretty well decided not to vote at all. However, that decision did not set well with me. I recieved my absentee ballot (the only way to vote early in Alabama) and saw that there were 3 other candidates listed for President. Of course Ralph Nader was there and that was an automatic "Not hardly" and then two others. I studied both of those and decided on the Independent. I marked my ballot and sent it in. I had exercised my democratic responsibility and voted. I was also able to satisfy my convictions by not voting for Obama or McCain.

Now that the election is over and the populist has spoken, I will support the candidate of choice. I do this not because I am a Democratic or a Repiblican but simply an American. I will give the President Elect my honor and allegience until he gives me reason to withdraw it. He has a great task before him that many, and I include myself, would probably not be able to fulfill. My thoughts and prayers remain his and his family's. But they also remain with the United States. We, as a nation, are in a time of great struggle and change. We as a people, when united, have shown there is little that we can not accomplish. It is my prayer that our differences are laid aside and that we may fulfill our hopes and dreams. It is also my prayer that Mr Obama turns out to be the leader that we all, and perhaps much of the world, hope he is. As usual, just my two cents worth...Bill.
