well, avoiding my own dogma regarding psu specs (more power, weighs a ton), i had purchased a "500watt"
psu for my daughters' x64 rig...after throwing it out the back door, flames lapping my rists, the smell of burnt
silicon, etc. remaining for an hour or two, i decided to recapitulate my own rules...never cut corners on the "little black" (titanium, green, transparent, chrome, etc.) box of a psu that resides in your rig...

I dont understand how you can use that much power 
I have a 400w and according to most of those online power calculators im using just over 300w

Hmmm.... If I go under 550, my system won't even start.... 
I know, overpowered, extreme and even worse, too slow with compiling for me
