My PC SpeC:
amd 64 3500+
2Gb ram
320Gb sata hard drive
ati radeon 9550
19" tft

my system is 64-bit but i was wondering if you think i should go xp64bit edition.
some people say it has no advantages and often driver issues etc.

what do you think?

Man, you have a 64 bit machine, go download the trial version of XP 64 and give it a spin, just install a new case of windows, don't wipe your dirves or write over your other install incase you hate it, you still have everything you worked to obtain!

If you have a 64bit machine, which you do, go for it!!!! However, if you don't want a trial but want the real thing, wait for Vista. At least, I would.

Barty, x64 windows is based on the '03 server core. much more stable
and secure then the 32 bit. if you can partition your drive as was suggested,
or install on a spare, i think you should give it a go (i ran the betas, RCs and the oem finale as my only OS, so i would do it, just 'cause you can ). just make sure
you have your drivers (x64 only) for your chipset/audio/video/storage (x64
ati and nvidia video drivers come preinstalled ). i was runing four raptors in raid0
under x64 xp...talk about fast B)

Yeah i would dual or triple boot. I would install your 32 bit os that you prefer, then install your choice of server 2003 or xp 64 bit trial. Also you could install a 64 bit Vista if you have it.

Except with Vista you get that new boot loader and it's a pain in the ass for me to select "Legacy (older windows versions)" then go into the OLD boot loader to choose your XP or Server. Annyoing to me. I uninstalled Vista for that reason... other than that I couldn't export the WMP 11 Like I wanted

I switched to x64 when RC1 was released, and haven't looked back. The only HW I had problems with was dialup, but since I very rarely use it, it wasn't a big deal at all for me. You do have to be slightly more careful when picking AV/spyware software, because many titles haven't been rewritten to use 64-bit system processes yet. Avast!, NOD32, and Kaspersky all have x64 compatible versions, as does AdAware, SpybotSD, and Microsoft AntiSpyware. SpySweeper worked with x64 until they released 4.5, now it doesn't...

indeed. mobo boot loader is de rigueur.

At the minute there is more 32bit support, but Windows xp 64bit is cool, install both and enjoy hopping around like a frog

Or any combination of the above.

well, if you have all the X64 drivers you need, i would give it a go (64 bit xp).
a combo os system can be fun, or as the possible afore mentioned boot loader
problems, a pain. right now i'm triple booting with 32 bit windows (dvd burner problems
in x64 for me), and a few vista betas.

i am only going to have 1 Os theriwse it just gets anyoying. i think i will go with media center as it is xp pro with extras.
people say x64 has no real advantage
