When I had my old PC for about +- 4 years I always used me onboard AC 97. Back then I thought it was pretty good :headset: , but when I had my new PC built a couple of months ago. I decided to have an Audigy installed.

Ever since the Audigy I couldn't realise the difference, but I never directly compared the two with each other. Then last night I needed to use the on board Real Tek, after listening to the two, I started lauging.

On board audio sounds like cr@p, when compared to a dedicated card such as the Creative Audigy. How do you guys feel?

Asked a year ago I would have said a dedicated card..........now..........the onboard sound is that good you really wouldn't notice (unless your heavily into mixing/producing etc.)........... :headset:

add on card for xp, but the vista onboard audio codec/drivers are a cut above their counterparts. still, if you have the option to use an add on audio card, go for it!

lol, my onboard is almost exactly the same. Also with 8channel and Dolby support.. For some reason I still think the Creative is better

Realtek ALC850 8-channel CODEC
Audio Sensing and Enumeration Technology
S/PDIF out interface support

...but an Audigy card wouldnt be superfluous stuff for me :headset:

On my old rig's sound cards keeped glitching and burning out.(Creative) So I planned my new rig with onboard sound. ASUS A8N Premium . Its got more than I need. I still have the Creative 5.1 speakers. Its all working great now. ("now" lol, Its over a year- gosh!- about a year and a half old. Man, time flys! )

I use to not see the point in anything else but onboard. But then I finally ordered a X-Fi, and I was blown away!! I will never go back!! Only way to go if you are a big sound buff. Then again, you need good speakers to back it up. You won't see a difference if you are running 20 dollar set of speakers from Dell or Staples. I have a set of 250 dollar Cambridge Sound Works speakers which really sound nice!!!

I never, EVER used my onboard. I always bought Creative soundcards since I started building PCs. Chris is right. The X-Fi is awesome. It will blow your mind. I had an Audigy 2ZS and an Audigy 4 before my X-Fi. Audigys don't even begin to stand up against them

lol. No prob chris. Just speaking the truth. I don't mean to be a twat here but if anybody votes for on-board and has heard the X-Fi, that person needs his ears de-waxed ...
