Story as short as possible---I completely reconfig'd my system and am now running 7 Ultimate on a single SATA drive with a few partitions; two of which are a swap and install of Ubuntu 9.10. Everything is working fine and I have another 320g SATA drive waiting to be formatted/utilized.

I backed up ~ 250g of media via my primary OS before this which was x64. My mistake was assuming that Windows/Ubuntu had come along enough to recognize my nf4-based raid0 array which is where my media is currently stored. (I have two older Maxtor SATA's that I striped a while ago and only plugged them in when I was using Windows to back up my FAT32 partition where I keep all that stuff.)

Unfortunately nVidia no longer writes storage/raid drivers for anything prior to nf5. So my ~250gb of media backup is currently in limbo because I have no way to copy the files to my new FAT32 Part. Windows 7 can't see an nf4 stripe and I've never had much luck with SATA raid in Ubuntu.

The only option I can see is installing XP 32/64 on my other standalone SATA drive, loading the F6 drivers, torrenting a PManager, and creating a partition to copy my media from my stripe. Wouldn't be the end of the world but I thought someone here might have an idea that would save me that trouble.

Hi mike, sorry i cant help. Early on i messed around with RAID, and lost a lot of data. from there i never used RAID again, just wasn't worth the data loss. maybe someone else can help you out on this problem

thx navy. Still working on the problem but I should be ok. I installed x64 on my other drive and with Paragon's recovery CD made my partition to copy my stuff to. l"ll just use XP to read my stripe.

One thing I didn't realize before is that Win. 7 can't read fat32 so I probably would've had to do this anyway.

mods/admins---topic solved, feel free to lock/delete this post. I installed 7, Ubuntu, swap, and grub on one drive, unplugged it, and then installed x64 on the other drive and loaded legacy nf4_raid/f6 drivers. Used Paragon's Recovery CD to create an extended part. and then a logical part. on my x64 drive. Plugged in my stripe and copied my media to the logical part., then used the Paragon CD to hide and deactivate the x64 install.

win7 does fat32, at least for a data drive. i'm using a ramdrive that is seen by 7 as a fat32 formatted "drive", and 7 also gives options for other drives to be formatted as fat32. odd one that...

Damn, I mis-read the article(s) I googled. I'll take it from you guys for real-world experience. Looks like my mistake was poor comprehension because after looking through the articles I read they are all talking about 7 installs, not reads. My mistake, all apologies.

worked out ok in the end for me because i was able to mount the NTFS partition in Ubuntu. So all my media is available regardless of OS.
