After three years, the connection only getting worse and the pricing only going up. I'm tired of it.
Since I moved here, I got a speed-drop from 16mbit to now hardly 5 mbit.
Price went up from 15 euro/month, to now 18 euro/month.

I really had it, but I can't drop this 'till march 2010.

I am probably not the only one, but, today we had a thunderstorm, which lead to the following:
Speed is now UNDER 2mbit.
Connection stability? Pah, longer then 15 minutes and I have to reboot the modem.
Connecting? Modem sometimes takes up to 5 minutes.

I really have had it.

Ok, ok, I'll stop whining, just had to get it of my chest.

Wow I thought it was bad enough here: 40$ (more like 50$ with taxes and stuff) for 7 down 800 up. And a 30gb/month total up/down limit, which is ridiculous.

Normal speeds here are in the range of 5 up, 20 down for 25 euro/month
50 up, 100 down for around 60 euro/month if I'm not mistaken.

And for glassfiber... Don't get me started, it's not worth it yet, there's only one provider, and that's a leecher.

And all this for €40 a month ($50ish) which is very cheap for that speed here. Eircom (who have the monopoly on dsl in his country) charge €39.99 for their 7 meg "fastest in the country" product.

Oh, I also get my phone serice from my ISP for an extra €5 a month. If you wanted a phone service with the Eircom package you'll be paying €62 ($92)

I've been paying (happily) $60 US per month for Comcast's High Speed package. They don't tier or measure that package you just get the speed that's available from the local node. I'm ~ 10 miles north of Detroit, MI, US, and regularly get 16mbs down and 6 up. The only competitor here is Wide Open West and i was a customer for a long time but they are horrible about service interrupts. Also, last I knew, you had to choose between 4, 6, or 8mb/s dl, upload was static.




Very jealous of people in NY, Philly, SanFran, etc., that have access to Verizon's FiOS. $49.99 US per month for synchronous 50+mb/s. I've read that Verizon is trying to bring FiOS to every major metropolitan area but it makes sense that it will take years. From what I've read, they will have to run fiber beneath existing roads/highways in areas without subterranean public transport.

Just out of curiosity, does the UK have access to FiOS?

Why'd you choose the Chicago server? They not have one in Detroit?

Nope, no Detroit on Speedtest. They have one for G.Rapids and Kzoo which are ~ 150miles away but thought the closer you were to a server would skew the results so I usually just test to Chitown. Ran one to both in MI and looks about the same, little less upload.

after what seems like a decade on 1.5..actually 1.3 is the best I ever got on it DSL, I'm ecstatic with what I'm gettin now. Although it took me gettin my own Lynksys-Cisco modem, (19.95 @ Newegg) . I think the $ goes up to 42.95 after 12 ,mo's.
