This should work with both Windows 2000 and XP but some XP machines and even some 2000 machines might not recieve messages as the services this function rely on may be disabled. If you have an Administrators account click start, run and type Services.msc

Enable and start the service called messenger.

Firstly to access the function do any of the following.

To access it normally. Right click my computer, click manage

Go to \WINDOWS\system32\compmgmt.msc (or \WINNT\system32\compmgmt.msc depends on your install)

Start, Programs, double-click the startup folder and then press the Up arrow till your in the root of your drive. Then go into WINDOWS\system32\compmgmt.msc (or \WINNT\system32\compmgmt.msc depends on your install)

Now you want to click Action at the top, all tasks, send console message. Type your message and Add the computer(s) you want to message on the list. Your own pc may be on there, remove that or you will message yourself too.

Then click send and watch it go.

Some system adminstrators may have made it difficult to send messages so open Notepad.

Type the following (or paste)

@echo off
net send * YOUR MESSAGE HERE
pause

Then click file, save as... and call it message.bat (include .bat extension and make sure there is no .txt)

Now save the file and run it, your message will appear on every machine on the LAN unless your adminstrator or someone else disabled Messenger and/or sometimes it just doesn't work.

The word pause can be removed, its just so you know if the sending was successful before continuing and also you can replace YOUR MESSAGE HERE with your text.

BE WARNED the reciever(s) will know WHO sent it and at what time and even what computer.

Ehm... usually, those sysadmins aren't the brightest computering lights, tried to hack the system? I did... took me 5 minutes, I now can log on as sysadmin at school

thinking about it, i am almost certain that after setting up a domain this service works plus a batch file should do it
