Hey Guys/Gals

For my N+ practical exam at my college I need to be able to do the following. (Please note I have tried to do these but it never works for some reason)

Note I work with 2 pc's. One is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (Server) and other is Windows XP PRO (Client) Aim is to connect them.


1) Create user groups and accounts. This is pretty much the only thing that I do, that works out.

2) Install and Configure DHCP Server in Win server 2003; then connect the XP client to it. However my XP client never recieves an assigned IP address.

3) Install_and_configure_windows_2003_dns_server.

4) Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller and DNS Server Setup; this is pathetic the XP machine can not see the domain controller etc.

What is the correct order I should do the above following steps? Any help would be appreciated etc.

First, PC and Server must be on the same subnet and there must be no existing DHCP server in use. If on different subnets then you need to configure \'dhcp helper\' address of the DHCP server on the router! For DHCP to work you need to set up a scope and \'Authorise\' it using DHCP console. In the DHCP Scope options you can configure gateway and dns addresses for clients.

Before configuring DNS, make sure the Primary DNS suffix is configured on the server to match the DNS zone (see System control panel, Computer Name).
Once DNS is installed you need to configure a forward lookup zone. Also in the TCPIP Properties of the server, the dns address must point to itself. Ideally, a reverse lookup zone is required.
On the client, in TCPIP properties, the DNS settings need to point to
