hydra z is awesome, and the ladder dac is sweet, a modders dream from what i can glean from forums (lite dac60, dual pcm1704 r-2-r, tube analog output, not a buffer, the actual output itself!). mundorf fancy caps are in my future it seems...

i've been somewhat busy modding the ladder dac. it's turned out to be quite a bargain, the mod parts not too expensive (the big mundorf silver/gold/oils caps where $110 a pop(x2), so far the biggest single expense). an incredible sounding dac so far.

Wow, what a long strange trip it still is...a Holo Spring DAC has replaced the Wyred DAC, and the Wyred pre has been usurped by the Audio Mirror T-61, and as for analog/vinyl, a Lounge vIII phono stage followed by a Beogram TX2 with a moving iron MMC 3 Cart. Vinyl is just so much more fun and engaging than any of the digital audio I have at the moment, and it is also very expensive, especially when you get a junky pressing. Still, I am finding myself much more drawn to Vinyl...

I have said for years that vinyl just has a smooth mellow sound to it. Kind of like a tube system vs a transistor system

Yes, and the soundstage is much more engaging, as I have also purchased electronica that is just stunning on vinyl. I was blown away that I could have the subs letting loose and hear a perfect rendition of any of the club-over-the-head sub heavy stuff I have. Discogs has been a haven of treasures for me lately. I just found a site that has N.O.S. anti static guns made in England...I'll report back once I have had the opportunity to try one out. I think it is time to replace the caps in the tube pre, so some research is on the list for the next few days.
