ok, after reading the gentoo install (universal cd) notes, i get to the point where i am required to enter a "root#"... what is the command? i have tried everything i could find in their instructions, but to no avail...

please point out the location of this command? because it cousd mean 2 things actually...

I think it means you need to swith to the superuser mode. This command is
# su
(leave the # out!)
and then you need to enter you root password

But if it actually is root#, it's not a command... everything behind the # is a command.

it's before i can access the desktop. a flashing prompt. i don't have a password. this is the universal
cd.

Hmmm... go for the minimal konsole CD! it's way easier to use!

that is what i tried this morning. after spending 3 hours trying to get to a desktop, i give up. there are NO instructions on how to get to the desktop in gentoo. i have no clue as to how anybody does. and the forums are about as helpful as a black eye...all i get is "livecd root#", and a prompt after the "#". i typed in pages of stuff to get it going :blink:

suse x64 is running great :blink: installed on scsi raid0, uber grubbed :cowboy:

Did you follow the instructions on the Gentoo HOWTO pages?

If you follow those, it's not a hard job. Okay, it does take a while to install, but it's not hard!

i didn't want to install 'til i had had a chance to run the "demo" (in memory, off the "live cd"). i wouldn't think there would
be too much of a setup in this instance :blink:

of my faild attempts ;) just booted from the .iso, let it do it's thing. it just wouldn't let me know what it really wanted, kept blinking at me, just like a few of my exes...kinda gets on your nerves after awhile :P
