Not to try and throw a negative spin on it, but what kind of wear and tear will it do to the PS3? Do you think it will be able to handle it?

No noticeable effect. Same as the PC client. It might knock a month or two off the theoretical 20 year lifespan of the processor (or whatever the lifespan of the Cell is).

BTW,

Looks like I was right. I was hoping it would be sooner...

As long as you keep it cool it shouldn't matter. After all the thing is only good about 5 years anyway. By then a new one will be out. Like brewin said, they usually last about 10 years. So, in all reality it doesn't matter. If the thing is going to break it will in the first year under warranty anyways.

My poor Sempron64 laptop is working on an extremely complicated project called p1487_DPPC_DOPC_CHOL. I don't think I've ever had a project over 600 points. This one's worth 1161 points. :(

Here's what my FAHlog looks like...

[09:19:14] Protein: p1487_DPPC_DOPC_CHOL
[09:19:14] Writing local files
[09:19:17] Warning: long 1-4 interactions
[09:19:17] Writing local files
[09:19:17] Completed 0 out of 1000000 steps (0%)
[14:35:55] Writing local files
[14:35:55] Completed 10000 out of 1000000 steps (1%)
[20:10:26] Writing local files
[20:10:26] Completed 20000 out of 1000000 steps (2%)
[23:54:30] Writing local files
[23:54:31] Completed 30000 out of 1000000 steps (3%)
[03:40:31] Writing local files
[03:40:32] Completed 40000 out of 1000000 steps (4%)
[07:09:53] Writing local files
[07:09:53] Completed 50000 out of 1000000 steps (5%)
[12:19:05] Writing local files
[12:19:06] Completed 60000 out of 1000000 steps (6%)
[17:20:59] Writing local files
[17:20:59] Completed 70000 out of 1000000 steps (7%)

7% done after about 37 hours with, by my calculations, about 526 hours left... :(

I'd move it to one of my Athlon 64s, but I don't want to risk data corruption...

They know I do. They're refusing to release the client just to spite me.
