wendy over at ocz/myce posted up a slick easter egg in win7:

For Win7 only, use at your own risk.

To get the Win7 GOD panel.
Create a folder on the desktop, and rename it with the following string, exactly.

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

If you got it right, the icon will change...

Good timing. A friend sent me the link to the article about 10 minutes ago and I got it working on my end just a second ago...right before I checked out ol'x64bit...ago.

I was reading about this on Saturday, Ed Bott wrote an article on it. Really doesn't do much.

Here's the Article: That "God mode" Explorer trick does less than you think

Snippet:

All of the tasks in the "God Mode" list are already available in Control Panel. There is not a single new or hidden tweak here. Many of them are listed under the different category headings there. Some of the specific task links appear only in response to a search for a specific keyword; they represent alternate entry points to tasks that you might not find easily using the conventional navigation.

Do you need patty to show you where the "Control Panel" is? :giggle:

Checked it out, the only difference with the Control Panel is the naming and placing. Basically, it's not a "godmode" but a "This text might explain better what you are doing" mode.
Really, everything I could do in the godmode, I could find in the Control Panel, although in the Control Panel, it wasl more obscurely named. But, on the other side, for the basic user, more understandable.

This is not a godmode, it's a shell-hack to something that doesn't really add anything if you know your way around in the CP

Is this feature really a "god mode"? Not really, as Brandon Live pointed out today:

"First, you've discovered a documented feature of the shell whereby filesystem folders can be easily made into namespace junctions, as described here on MSDN. Basically, any folder named . will show up with just the portion visible in Explorer, and navigating into the folder will take you to the namespace root defined by the portion of the name. The second thing you've discovered is the "All Tasks" folder. This is a special shell folder which is used as the source of the "Control Panel" search results seen in the Start menu."

Although it's not a hidden feature I found it quite cool ! :(
