I was taking a walk with my family in one of the most beautiful touristic attractions of my city, Belo Horizonte, when I decided to take some photos to share with you.

The first one is Pampulha Church, designed in 1943 by Oscar Niemeyer, a famous brazillian architect.

This one is a partial view of Pampulha lake. It's an artificial lake constructed in 1941.

Here we have Mineirinho ginasium (left) and Minerirão Stadium (right). Some of the games of the World Cup 2014 will be played in Mineirão, and I will be there.

Bellow there's a map of the region, showing the lake, the Mineirinho ginasium and the Mineirão stadium (bottom).

As some of you may already know I'm having my mastering classes at Ouro Preto Federal University (UFOP). If everything goes fine I'll get my master degree in geotechnical engeneering next year. It's just an hour travel, so I go there and come back to Belo Horizonte 3 times a week. Sometimes I have to make magic to do all I have to do and still find time to study.

Ouro Preto is a historical city arround 100 km far from Belo Horizonte, and its "School of Mines" is one of the most traditional of the country. It's a very beautiful city, with all its old buildings and monuments.

Here go some pics:

Yeah! Nice pics, but I didnt take them myself.

I lost my Sony DSC-S650 last month in a shopping WC, but the sad thing was not the camera itself, but lots of pictures of friends and family that I hadnt downloaded yet. :)

Now I have a cheap Kodac C180. :P

Wow, really nice pictures, looks like a nice (and big!) city too! I don't know much about Brazil, most pictures we see are of Rio de Janeiro and the big statue on the mountaintop. It's nice to get to see more.

Also the Rua do Comércio reminds me A LOT of the small streets of Old Quebec. Small paved streets with old buildings. Looks nice too.

And that big lake is artificial!? Quite impressive. Reminds me of Notre-Dame island here in Montreal, which they built with the earth they excavated when building the subway in the 1960's. They did the Expo 67 (Universal Exposition) on it and adjacent Ste-Helen's island. The 1976 Olympics' rowing basin and Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (F1) are also there.

Posted Image

Montreal is on the left. The white structure on the side of the lake is the Casino. It's a former Expo 67 building, as is the Biosphere (grey bubble, was the US's). Most the the old buildings have been dismantled in the years following the Expo though. We also don't see it well but there's La Ronde, a Six Flags amusement park on the top end of the farthest island. Oh and there's also a WWII-era prison below the bridge!

edit: In case you wondered, that's on the St. Lawrence river. :P

What a wonderful pic Hog ! You took it yourself?

I'd like to visit Montreal one day.

Yes, it was built in the beginning of the 40's when Juscelino Kubitschek was the mayor of Belo Horizonte. In the 50's, when he was president, he constructed Brasilia that became the capital city of the country. He liked to build big things ! :P

Heh, unfortunately no :) I don't even have a camera! Actually I think it's kinda old, I can notice some stuff missing, like some attractions of La Ronde. It still looks quite the same though.
